Why are Soccer Balls, Black and White?

There is no definitive answer to this question, as there are several theories floating around. One popular theory is that the black-and-white color scheme makes it easier for players to see the ball against a variety of backgrounds (such as the green of a soccer field). Another theory is that the colors help television viewers better see the ball when it is in motion. Whatever the reason, the black-and-white color scheme of a soccer ball has become an iconic part of the sport.
